Magnolia House Scottsboro

About
Magnolia House Scottsboro

We hope you enjoy reading a little History of the House.

In 1890, J. D. Snodgrass began construction on the house he was building for his second wife Hattie Mae Brown. The house was built close enough in to walk to town and far enough out to have a barn, cows, chickens, a garden and orchard, and a warehouse to store cotton from the farms. It was built in the Victorian style of that era, with lattice work trim and shutters on each window. Built in an "L" shape for natural cross ventilation, the house had six porches, two across the front and two on the sides with pierced railings in the Carpenter Gothic style. The house had ten rooms with two large hallways and the floor plan was identical upstairs and down. There were three chimneys in the house which provided a fireplace in every room.
